This thread has several components:
1) Music to make war by
2) Musical lyrics that reflect you, your philosophy, your preferred race or army, or just LOS battle in general.
3) Movie quotes for recurring situations.
4) Movie quotes for particular situations (and we need th quote and the story)

White Zombie's "More Human Than Human" has a number of applications.
-
Static X is a band that really gets my blood going. This song in particular: Destroyer

-
Not necessarily my thing, but I can get into it.
Female Infranite vs Black Empire Roller Derby (PK unlimited)
Would be quite a sight.
-
I always enjoyed gaming to the 'Akira' soundtrack... works for almost any type of game and no lyrics means little distraction.
-
My preference was the soundtrack to the movie 'The Rock'.
-
Back in the day, it was lots of Pantera. I wouldn't change a thing today (I would go with much better beer.)
-
Pun acknowledged but unintended: sci fi miniature games go well with heavy metal.
Classical also goes well. More Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Liszt or maybe Beethoven rather than Mozart etc.

I was never into Static X [to be honest, i just hadn't heard of them] but that was pretty cool. I found this video by them [sorry for the bad format link];
http://youtu.be/Ps0MfBG5-Uo (http://youtu.be/Ps0MfBG5-Uo)
Pretty cool, since it looks like it could be taking place in a giant Machine Complex... :)
-
As has been mentioned before, Front Line Assembly was a core part of the LoS experience for us - it is so well suited to The Machine you'd sometimes swear they had played the game if it wasn't for the fact that some of the music pre-dated its release...
I'm gonna expand on this post later, but I found this video at least for 'Millenium' [the video itself is low budget cheese, but focus on the lyrics if you can];

Imagine an Overlord that has created a twisted form of music that attempts to play mindgames with any intruders to its complexes...
The lyrics to it [I've highlighted some key contextual bits in red];
Into Precision
Into The Light We Fade
Into Submission
We All Hallucinate
Into The Ground
We All Dissipate
Into Delusion
We All Segregate
[Chorus:]
Amid All This Confusion
We Lose Sight of The Enemy
Like Evil Gods of Destruction
They Move Through Liquid Transparencies
Disposable Heroes
Men of Yesterday
Disposable Heroes
Are Never Here to Stay
Like Gods of Destruction
They Seek to Violate
Like Machines of Seduction
They Will Regenerate
[Chorus]
The Countdown to Extinction
Will Now Transform Reality
Slowly The Sky Grows Dark
You Slip Into A Final Dream
Into The Wavelength
Come Conspiracy
Into The Wavelength
A Planet Never Free
In Through The Future
Time Grows Weak
Into The Future
The Strong Inheret The Weak

Enya, 'Book of Days'
Makes me think of Valkries and Heros slugging their way through hordes of enemies.

Yeaaap!
That was my UNE task force's primary enemy.
-
FLA, Front 242, Nine Inch Nails etc... its all good when playing against machines! :P
-
And the True Romance soundtrack, eh Dave?
I was also thinking that Old School Rap works well: Schooly D, Ice Cube, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Ice T inter alia.
Why do I think that Fantasian Privateers would love that stuff?

Pulling a quote from another thread about a once-in-a-lifetime moment during a game;
A funny story related to the American 'autofiring' tangent;
As I have mentioned elsewhere in the forum, I used to play music by Front Line Assembly to set a certain 'mood'. They have a penchant for incorporating quotes from various movies into their tunes.
One night JP was using his American [nicely painted] squads, and at a particular moment when a behemoth was about to unload fully on a few of my nightmares, one of the more infamous quotes came up, perfectly timed - it was from the movie Falling Down; "I'm an American - You're a sick *******". The next second he made his dice role and I think he ended up nicely mowing down nearly all the Nightmares he was targeting. Talk about my 'psychological warfare' strategy backfiring, LOL!
Now here is the infamous song by FLA - Vigilante, complete with a nicely cobbled together compilation of bits from the movie 'Falling Down'. Quote hits at 0:46

Not really, just that one song because of its beat and the lyrics could be some Commando who carries a portable guitar (?) and sings it like an old fashion cowboy would.
One day, one night, one moment,
my dreams could be, tomorrow.
One step, one fall, one falter,
east or west, over earth or by ocean.
One way to be my journey,
this way could be my Book of Days.
Ó lá go lá, mo thuras,
an bealach fada romham.
Ó oíche go hoíche, mo thuras,
na scéalta nach mbeidh a choích.
(English translation)
From day to day, my journey,
The long pilgrimage before me.
From night to night, my journey,
The stories that will never be again.
(End Translation)
No day, no night, no moment,
can hold me back from trying.
One flag, One fall, One falter,
I'll find my day may be, Far and Away.
Far and Away.
One day, one night, one moment,
with a dream to believe in.
One step, one fall, one falter,
find a new earth across a wide ocean.
This way became my journey,
this day ends together, Far and Away.
This day ends together, Far and Away.
Far and Away.

Probably the jewelry and the gold teeth!

Clark may have some 'personal' insight into what kind of music i was listening to when drawing/designing! lol
I recall Marco's Blue Rodeo phase - that totally did NOT fit into the LoS world! lol
I was completely infactuated with True Romance then, funny to think back on the 'good ol days'... and i'm sure Tom was rolling his eyes at some of the stuff we were listening to as well!
-
FLA, Front 242, Nine Inch Nails etc... its all good when playing against machines! :P
Don't forget Skinny Puppy! Or Ministry - 'The Land Of Rape & Honey' or 'The Mind Is a Terrible Thing To Taste' are two great albums by them...
-
Jesus built my hotrod!
-
I always thought "Metal Gods" by Judas Priest was pretty much the anthem for the LOS...and yes, there was a lot of eye rolling at what Diamond Dave and El Jefe were playing on Geary...
-
Oh the fights we had over music....Tb and his damn Shania...
-
Well, I never could get the "Chili Peppers mistique", and I'll stand behind "Copperhead Road" and "Live at Folsom Prison & San Quentin"...and when "Any Man Of Mine" came on Much, I was not alone in front of the MarcoTron...
-
Personally, while tending towards pretentious progressive rock/ post-rock/ post-hardcore-progressive-stoner-metal I'd take Johnny Cash over the Chilli Peppers any day.
-
I recently get Eve of Destruction from iTunes. It strikes me as obliquely related as part of an LOS soundtrack. Even acoustic, hippy protest songs sometimes work for me, apparently.
-
So what would a fully original LOS theme song sound like taking into account, in the first instance your view, and in the second instance an amalgum of the views that you are aware of?
-
I always thought "Metal Gods" by Judas Priest was pretty much the anthem for the LOS...
I second this!!!!! Love that song. :D

Ok, I'm sold. I blew my $0.99 on iTunes to buy it! (Live version)

Pretty cool - the lyrics could pretty much be about the Machine!

Just got the newest Front Line Assembly cd last week [from 2010]. The boys are at it again!!!!
Here is another classic FLA track from around 1987 though - try playing it on a separate window [there's no video] while perusing the forum. Imagine a rookie group of UNE commandoes entering the complex for the first time with this track setting the mood... awesome.

I have a Predator painted sky blue with rainbows and puffy white clouds. His ice rifle says "free to be you and me". I imagine it was the dying middle finger of a commando stuck in the mindvaults that resisted to the end. So when that particular Predator hits the table, "free to be you and me" would be the most appropriate inspirational music.
And while the above is all true, the real reason I'm posting is just to see if I can be the last poster in every subforum at once.
-
Did it work?
-
It almost did, for about twenty-four hours. I couldn't be the author of a yahoo feed, and I didn't want to interfere with the official business sub-forums, but I was the listed as the last poster on all the others. :)
-
OKay, so I have been completely obsessed with Front Line Assembly over the past two months, I bought their newest album which is one of their best ever, and got to see them live for the first time too.
Naturally, I now have some new tunes that I think suit Legions of Steel as background music, so here I am to share my love of FLA with you all again. I really want to play the game while listening to this new music!
The coolest track by far is called 'Shifting Through The Lens'. This song could easily be interpreted as the Matrix Entity musing to itself about employing chemical warfare tactics, while simultaneously observing and/or dissecting bioforms in its mindvaults... check out the link below on a separate window and come back to the forum to read the lyrics below:
http://youtu.be/BXTQ4-OXB1s (http://youtu.be/BXTQ4-OXB1s)
Lyrics to the song:

Shifting Through The Lens
Mindless
human
f a i t h

naked
there to waste
neurotic
choking

f u e l s
paranoid
crazed c e l l s
This bit sounds like observations of humans in the mindvault, some who are obviously alive and scared out of their minds...
s l i d e into darkness
slither down the shaft
s l i d e into darkness
slither down the shaft
of hell
A bold invitation to enter the machine complex? Imagine hearing an Overlord wispering this as your forces enter the maze...
movements
mirror
his subjects
s h i f t i n g
through
the lens
dirty
shadows
dissipate
dissolve

myself
A reference to the Matrix observing intruding enemies via cameras or machine units visual feedback... and an almost personal reference to a Nachtmacher fading out...
slide into darkness
slither down the shaft of hell
sterilize all contact points
inhale if you want to breath
dirty
poison
oxygen
delivers shiva's need
s t e r i l i z e
all contact pointsss
inhale if you want to
b r e a t h
I love this bit in the song - very catchy phrase. 'Sterilize all contact points' could be a euphemism for employing chemical weapons, especially with the 'dirty poison oxygen' part in there.
And I like the reference to Shiva too, it could be interpreted as the Matrix discovering the concept of Shiva from someone in the mindvaults & identifying with either the concept of Shiva as a destroyer or as the transformer; "the One who purifies everyone by the very utterance of His name."
body parts
b l e a c h e d
a m p u t a t e d
feelings
fluid core
d i s m e m b e r e d
dissolve
into
a b y s s s s s s
And a nice ending where the Matrix Entity decides to dissect some living specimens...
Obviously FLA didn't write this to suit LoS, but man - it works as a cool interpretation of the lyrics, doesn't it?
-
And if the Matrix Entity were to like a genre, it should be Industrial, right?
-

Naturally! :)
Anyone try listening to the song yet?
-
Nah, listening to Apocalyptica's "Seventh Symphony" album, especially "On the Roof with Quasimodo", "2010" and "Beautiful".

Ignore the video.

Thats pretty cool music, Sam! I may have to investigate them further...
-
Just listening to the FLA track now. I dig it.

Cool! I know it may be a bit fast & dance-y to be a good sci-fi sounding background track, but FLA likes to try and get you to MOVE sometimes... I just love it when they use distorted vocals like in this one.
-
I think the dance influence works nicely. Nice change from my diet of post-metal.
-
I don't buy into the lamestream, but you guys are way out there! :D
-
This is my less out-there selection.

Heh heh! You have no idea just how far out...
Here's another cool bit o' tune-age I just discovered a week or two ago... does anyone here recall Gary Numan and his classic song 'Cars' from, ah... 1979?? Well, the dude continues to make good music that no one ever hears... I just got his new album that was released in October 2011... the first track is called 'Resurrection' and definitely would sound good while playing LoS...
