Title: Game Background / Rules Text files
Post by: grendeljd on May 21, 2013, 04:57:03 PM
Hey,

Does anyone have any of the rules in an editable text file format, rather than just scans of the original pages?

It occurs to me that if we are to ever get LoS 3E off the ground again, or even reprint the old books, we'll need to start up a new book by typing everything out manually again.

Or run it through an OCR program...

This was my thought. I've been meaning to pick up a new scanner for a few months now, as my old one has died. Usually I need one regularly for work, but I haven't had much call for it recently.

Grendeljd, lemme know when you want to start tinkering and I'll make a point of finally picking up a scanner.

I'm not familiar with what that is...

I was actually considering just typing up chunks of the text as I am able while at work on my day shifts... it could appear as if I was doing something work-related, haha. I don't have a lot of direct supervision at work either.

OCR = Optical Character Recognition...

in other words, transform a scan of a printed page into an editable document

I have a mish mash of things including a bare-bones set of ROE and the Planetstorm rules that have parts of it screwed up where there should be charts and illustrations.  I believe I have Quark Express files for Planetstorm and maybe Junction Point but they other digital files seem to be lost now.
