What Crossover or Conversion games/figures
« on: March 04, 2011, 06:49:12 PM »
Here is the question;
What game(s ) and/or figures do you think would make a good cross over, conversion or fit into the LOS universe?

(Note: not rules, not here. If you have rule sets or descriptions, please place them in the Rules Section of the forum, thanks.)

I will start by picking one, based more on the figures than the game (because I have never played the game but have several of the figures.)

HALO

Here are my reasons for selecting HALO.
1)  The figures are cool and easily fit the image of power armor of UNE, and the Covenant figures are very good also for living aliens or with a bit of metal paint, LOS figures of a new design.
2)  The game is very popular and it could (would) draw others to the LOS game
3)  There are lots of figures available for purchase and extra weapons that would allow people to play a LOS game using them
4)  The figures are cool looking and look like modified UNE PI suits. (I know, I already said this but its true.)

I know of some others that I think would work, but its your turn to post some. J

I just finished reading the book (which is way better than the movie). The Maurauder armour is two or three kills, jump jets better than a recce trooper, and powerful explosive warheads, flamer, grenades, et al. I will have to read it again for work rather than pleasure to figure out more specifics.

Well if you want to make some kick-ass infiltrators to catch the LOS off guard when they land on a human planet, just build some of the Cobra Units from Timothy Zahn’s novels.

Xenomorphs, Predators and Colonial Marines.

I'll second that!

I've seen at least one convention event that had Dalecks. I've seen maybe two episodes of Dr. Who so I have no comments on how to convert.

HALO for sure...in fact I have a ton of the Mega Blocks minis. The set also includes vehicles

Aliens, Preds, and Xenos but find actual miniatures of a playable scale is tough There is some hero clix stuff

GI Joe 3 1/4 inch figures -  full range of Cobra Troops, GI Joes and vehicles at a manageable scale

Star Wars -  hero clix

25 MM Historical Games

Star Wars -  hero clix

There are existing lines of Star Wars mini's [old & new] that would work too, no?

[On a side note, I gotta say that Hirst Arts line of 3d maze kits makes me drool - I would love to play LoS with that stuff.]

Have you heard the story of how Star Wars contributed to the death of Global Games?

Nope, but being a former WizKids, LLC employee and attempting to deal with them before Topps bought out WizKids and then WizKids (Topps) used the license, I can guess.

But, I would like to hear the story, in another thread of course. ;)

It's sort of relevant so I will post it here.

Global Games had an industry reputation for good quality figs and a solid game system.  West End Games had a license from Lucas Arts for Star Wars and had created a succcessful RPG.  They were looking at doing a miniature battle game and contacted Marco about Global Games doing it under a sub-license as a variant of the LOS rules.  I'm not sure how far Marco got with modifying the rules but he had sample miniatures sculpted and started flogging the idea to our distributors. Marco sunk something like $15,000 into the project and had nudge-nudge-wink-wink sales of about $2 million lined up when West End Games declared bankruptcy.  Bankruptcy terminates license agreements, and so Global's sublicense disappeared.  I think Marco tried to approach Lucas Arts but $200,000 in royalties was simply not worth their time for negotiating a Star Wars gaming license.
